John Mattheu rated it really liked it Nov 21, Examines a couple workbenches of each family, but doesn’t get into the why of design decisions as much as I’d like. Very comprehensive, with plans and detail drawings for many of the variations on woodworking workbenches by master craftsmen.

So, I have a lot left to learn about worjbench but this book helped me on my way. I bool pass on the Roman Workbenches: The Taunton Press Inc.
Along with a goal of reading 50 books this year, the other “leisure time” goal this year was to rehab my shop and storage areas. With 19 pages of measured drawings, two chapters on vises, and a list of sources of supply, this is one of woodworking’s all-time classic books.

Interesting from a historical perspective, but kind of rambling at times. In each case, detailed photos and illustrations show how the bench works and help guide you through the tough parts in its construction.
I want to set up a general workbench for my various hobbies and I think a traditional workbench would be good for a great many jobs. scoht
